[edit] The Battle Screen

  • When you enter a battle, you see a map. Your characters usually start at one end of map-grid, your enemies at the other.
  • This is a turn-based game, so you will "SoAndSo's Turn" to the right of the map
  • Notice underneath "SoAndSo's Turn" the different points your character has:
    • Movement Points are used to move this character across the map
    • Action Points are used when taking Actions, whether offensive or defensive
    • Defense Points decrease as your character is attacked and takes damage
    • Health Points decrease when your character takes damage and you have no more Defense Points left
  • Notes about Points:
    • Some actions can increase or decrease any of these points while in combat
    • Points regenerate at the start of each player's turn:
      • 10 points of Defense
      • 50 points of Action
      • 50 points of Movement
    • The maximum any of the point categories can reach is 100
  • To move to an adjacent square, click on the blue Arrow or alternatively click on one of the numbered tiles to move to that space. Movement points will be deducted by a certain amount depending on the speed rating of your armor.
  • To target any player, click on them - the target box underneath the "SoAndSo's Turn" box will show some details about your target
  • If you are close enough to use an action on a target (whether it's a defensive action on a friendly target or an offensive action on an enemy target) you will get a list of actions you can take, along with their Action Point cost.

[edit] Basics of Actions

  • The Actions a character can take are based entirely on the weapons that character is wielding, their distance to their target, and the number of Action Points they have available
  • Offensive Actions:
    • Some deal straight damage
    • Some are Effects that decrease one or more of the target's Points each turn
    • Some are area-based and may affect other enemies near the target (to a lesser degree)
  • Defensive Actions:
    • Some increase Points either immediately or a little each turn
    • Some increase resistance to certain types of attacks
    • Some inflict damage on an attacker, reducing any of the attacker's four Points
  • A basic Action may be based on one skill, but there are also combo Actions that require two skills
  • The cost of an Action depends on the speed of the weapon (or weapons if it's a combo action and the skills are split between weapons)
